I want to compare the two list and see if the how many duplicate vaules I have in the coulmn. Sample data is provided. What woudl be easiest way?

Wildcard in VLOOKUP
Use =VLOOKUP("Apple*" to find apple, Apple, or applesauce
Duplicates just between the two columns, or duplicates as a whole?
