'job & grade master (hide)' ???

Does the parenthesis HIDE in this formula mean the sheet is hidden? I checked the workbook and there are no hidden sheets. Does this mean it's from another workbook?

Nope, the word HIDE is just part of the sheet name, which is "JOB & GRADE MASTER (HIDE)"

Okay, thanks. That sheet must be in another workbook because Job grade master is not visible, and there is nothing to unhide. I checked. That's neither here nor there. The real issue I'm having is understanding this formula.

I cannot for the life of me understand how this formula is returning the correct info. N1 says 19 and N2 says 23. I guess I don't quite understand what it means to have the $ in between the column and cell number.
