Help,

I get the following message when trying to get into a database on my 'new' PC.

The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time. (Error 3197)

The database is a shared one and there will be a few users on at a time - which in the past has never caused problems - anyone got any ideas why I can't even open the database?? What settings do I need to change on my new pc ??

Excel Facts

Ambidextrous Undo
Undo last command with Ctrl+Z or Alt+Backspace. If you use the Undo icon in the QAT, open the drop-down arrow to undo up to 100 steps.
Just to let you know, other users aren't having problems accessing the same database - just me so I figure it must be a configuration setting that can be changed....

Also I've tried accessing other shared databases and if its in use by someone else I can't open the database at all...

Any ideas ?? anyone ?

Just one thought at the moment is to make sure that you are not trying to open the databases exclusivly

No luck - I wasn't trying to open the database exclusively.

It seems the error (3197) is quite wide ranging - so have no idea what to do! :(

I've even copied the database repaired it (just incase) and tried to open the copy but still no joy...

Could this be to do with the tables being linked in from an ODBC datasource ??
