I'm using conditional formatting but I either get only the first cells to change or if i use the $B$2, it changes every cell regardless of the rule.

Here it is:

CF= =B2="Kermit"
Only changes A2 - rest of spreadsheet to green and none of the other selected sales (through F500)

CF= =$B$2="Kermit"
Changes every cell in range to green even though only 20 say "Kermit"

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
If you want to conditionally format cells in col A that have a companion cell in col B that contains "Kermit", first select all applicable cells in col A with your mouse. For example, say you want the CF to apply to A2:A100. Then after selecting A2:A100 enter this rule: =$B2="Kermit", choose the format you want and click OK.

Thank you. I'm looking for it to change all cells from a2 - e500 that contain kermit in b2-b500. I'm only seeing the a column change to greet.

Thanks again!

You are welcome.

Select A2:E500, then go to Home>conditional formatting>New Rule>Use a formula

Formula is: =$B2="Kermit"
choose green fill and click OK
