Is this possible with Conditional Formatting ?

Hi,
thought this would be best explained with an image. Is it possible to use the "key" as conditional formatting?

So for example any cell in column A with "Apple" will match its formatting in cell D4

Yes, that is possible. You just need to make new rule for each of the entries in the "key".

Select the entire used range in column A, then make each rule like so:

apple:
=$A7=$D$4
pear:
=$A7=$D$5
orange:
=$A7=$D$6

etc..
