Is there any problem with saving normal excel files as XLSM?

Only some Excel files we use in our office have macros and were saved as XLSM.

Now I noticed everyone started all new files as XLSM instead of XLSX! Even if they don't have macros.

Its nice as macros may be added at some point - but wanted to ask the experts: is there some issue or disadvantage in saving Excel files as XLSM?

Thanks

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
Good day,

I am no expert by any means but I have recently learned of the extension .XLSB. It can drastically shrink the size of a file and you can save it in this format even with macros.

I had a file that was 56mb large. I saved it in .XLSB and it shrank to just over 5mb.

It is convenient to be able to look at a file, and tell by the extension whether or not it contains VBA. So if they start saving all files, even those without VBA as "xlsm" files, you will lose that ability.

Also, using the "xlsm" extension may lead to security warnings (depending on their security settings), and this is enough to freak many people out.
And if you are emailing these files, depending on where you are emailing them, certain security settings may "block" these files, as files with VBA may be seen as a potential threat.

But other than those things, it should not really affect the functionality of the files.
