I'm working on a spreadsheet that has quotation (") marks in cells to signify that the value should be that of the previous cell. With this having over 50,000 rows I'd like to be able to find and replace the quotation marks with the value from the previous cell. Is there a function that allows this?

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
If you switch the reference style of the workbook to R1C1 you can
Find "
Replace =R[-1]C

and then switch back to reference style A1 if you like.

Hi and welcome to the Board.
What do you mean by "previous" cell.
Is it the cell next to the one you want to change or one that was used previously somewhere else on the sheet ??

Are all of the "previous" cells in the same relative location to the one you want to change ??

Previous as in cells b117:b129 need to have the value of b116.

Mike, I tried what you suggested and it just puts in the =R[-1]C in place of all the quotations. I was using the find and replace option from the tool bar in R1C1 style does it need to be a macro or am I doing something incorrectly?

That formula should return the value from the cell above it.
Did you switch to R1C1 style from Excel>Options>General before you invoked Replace?

Yes I've switched to R1C1 after about ten minutes of trying to find where they put the option in 2007.

I just found my issue, there were spaces before the quotation mark and once they were replaced the spaces remained leaving the formula read as plain text.

Thank you for all your help, you just saved me a ton of time.
