Is named range automation possible?

Just wondering if it is possible to enter a formula in a named range reference that would allow the range to automatically expand if new items are added, or even if items are deleted. Currently, I add the new items to the bottom of the list, then edit the reference range to accommodate them in the Name Manager. This works OK, but it would be easier if a formula could do the work for me. Not a big deal if it's not possible, just curious.
