Hi all :rolleyes: ,

I have had a database with a reasonable track record - it comprises of 4 unrelated tables (3 smaller with one huge).

Just recently it has been corrupting for no good reason and I’m thinking it may have got too big.

There are at max 7 computers sharing the base at one time.

Common error messages include;

Open exclusive;
Database closed without saving causing damage;

Would it be better to split the main table?

Any suggestions or accounts of similar experiences (and solutions)?

Cheers (y) shortie

In the past I've encountered difficulties with shared databases.

This has mainly been because the data and the forms/reports/queries etc where all in the same database.

The solution I found was to create two databases, one a 'front-end' containing forms etc and the other containing the data.

You would then create links to the tables in the 'data' database in the 'front-end' database and use them to populate forms/reports and create queries.

There is actually a wizard in Access to help you do this, Tools>Database Utilities>Database splitter.

We have also had the same problem here...EVEN WITH THE DATABASE SPLIT. One thing we found that helped was making sure that no one person left the database open while they were not using it. IE: we wrote a timeout that kicked them out after x amount of time.
