I have a power pivot workbook that is too massive/slow now. Can I create a "dashboard" in one workbook but have the raw data in another workbook?
I thought I was successful at first but then my slicers were not working. I could deep dive into the power pivot chart but my other tabs with pivot charts were almost useless. Not sure where I'm going wrong.
Excel 2016. Or do you think Power BI would be better?

Convert text numbers to real numbers
Select a column containing text numbers. Press Alt+D E F to quickly convert text to numbers. Faster than "Convert to Number"
Are you using Power Query ?
You could try leaving your data in another workbook and accessing it via Power Query.
You can then either bring it straight in as a pivot table or chart, or presummarised by Power Query ready for a chart or load it into the data model for your power pivot.
