Does anyone know when Internet Explorer offically went "live" (and was no longer in Beta testing)?

We have a third party web application that is returning some weird results in Internet Explorer 8, and I am trying to determine when IE8 officially went live so I can put some pressure on our vendor to correct the issues.

I believe it officially went live on Groundhog's Day, which was Feb. 2nd, but on wikipedia it says March 19 was the date "Release to Manufacturing"

I searched the net a bit, and the Microsoft site, but had no luck.
Should have thought to check Wikipedia...

For some reason, I thought there was some big hype around groundhogs day, but maybe in the fact that it wasn't released to teh public on the 2nd yet?
