Hi all,

I want to download/install Office 2010 Pro
I there anything I need to consider first?

Current

Office 2007 Pro
Office 2010 Beta
SQL Server Exress 2008 R2
Visual Basic Studio 2008 Pro
VSTO 2005
Windows 7 Home Premium

Excel Facts

When they said...
When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".
I'd make sure to completely uninstall 2007 & the 2010 Beta before trying to install 2010 (there's absolutely no reason to keep either around).

And make sure to install the bit version appropriate to your Windows 7 installation.

I downloaded Office 2010 Professional
Accordin to instructions I found on Microsoft webiste, I need to run setup from the x64 folder

Where would I find the x64 folder?

No idea but normally you run an installation program from the folder to which you saved the download. Are the instructions something you can post a link to?

Okay, must be the installation itself has a folder for 32 bit installations, and for 64 bit installations. Do you find anything like that in your installation program? It may be that the article is about a DVD, but your installation program is not a DVD - did you try just running it and seeing what happens then (I'm sure you'll have a cancel installation if you get confused by the first screen or two).

This seems to describe what you found earlier:

Hmmm, well it definitely appears you should have two setup.exe programs - they should be in the folder where you saved or extracted the download, one for a 32 bit install and one for a 64 bit install.

Thanks

Only one file in the folder I downloaded to:
X16-32007.exe

When I first 2x click the file, it states it is extracting files
I think that wherever it is extracting the files must be where the x64 is

That sounds right. I'd be slightly hesitant to install the 64 bit version, myself. This is MS's blurb on the FAQ's about Office 2010:
Office 2010 products are available in 64-bit versions; however, for the best productivity and user experience, Microsoft recommends 32-bit Office 2010 for both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. Office 64-bit is optimized for advanced data analysis scenarios that most users don’t require, and existing 32-bit add-ins are not supported on Office 64-bit.

Unless you have a specific need for heavy data analysis or very large files, it sounds like the 32-bit version will perform fine and without risk of the compatibility problems described in the links above. Maybe the safer choice is 32 bit? I'm not sure though. Note on the unzipping: Usually files are extracted to the same directory as the compressed archive. But Windows 7 may have different behavior now.
