Insertinh up and down arrow symbols in Excel

I would like to insert up and down arrow symbols into Excel columns to express the direction of changes.
I have found that =CHAR(24) will produce the up arrow.
However, =CHAR(25) produces a symbol different from the down arrow.
I tried all combinations from =CHAR(1) to =CHAR(255), but none produce the down arrow symbol.
Also, the methods that successfully produce the arrow symbols in Word don't work for me in Excel.
Any help will be appreciated.

Surely it depends on the font.

When I try Char(24) I get a little square that indicates a non-printable character.

CHAR(173) and CHAR(175) in the SYMBOL font, found on almost all PCs works for me.

set cellformat to Wingdings 3 then use # or $
