Inserting a Shape (diamond) in a cell referenced by a date.

Hi All,

I currently have a spreadsheet that uses rectangle shapes as bar graphs. The graph's sizes are adjustable by a calculation I came up with based on start and end dates.
What I would like to do now is place multiple milestones on the graph at a week by week view. There are about 600 milestones in total and they may change in time. The colour will also need to change in time to accommodate it's latest status.

What I am trying to work out. Is there a way in which I will be able to enter dates in one work sheet and use that date to reflect which cell a shape is placed into on another worksheet? Then, if the date changes it will automatically adjust the positioning of the shape, and if the status changes it will change the colour of the shape?

I know this is pretty tricky. I am hoping that someone might be able to figure this out as I cannot.

Thank you in advance!
