Insert and modify certain rows with protected sheet

Hello All,
I'm releasing an updated template to a team for tracking schedules and need to lock down certain fields but enable others.

In column A:B I have merged cells with task names. In other columns to the right I have associated dates.

1) I'd like to be able to lock this sheet to prevent people from changing the existing task names, but allow them to insert and delete rows for additional tasks.
2) In any rows that are inserted they should retain the merged feature in A:B and not be protected so that the task descriptions can be typed in.
3) Any other columns that have unprotected data should remain unprotected.

One caveat...I do not want to require that a button be pressed for inserting rows. I'd like the sheet to do all of this in the background when someone inserts a row.

I've found several topics similar to my question but none of them have solved my issue completely.
(Example: https://www.mrexcel.com/forum/excel...ro-protect-sheet-but-allow-row-insertion.html)

Thanks in advance for any help

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Hi Eforti,
when locking a sheet, you can check the option "can insert rows" (in office 365 that is), that seems to work all right for me.
Cheers,
Koen
