Hi,

This will be a really easy answer for 99% of people on this forum but I can't get my head around the Index/Match formulas, I have one which i've copied from another workbook but I can't replicate it;

The below is sheet2 that the above is referencing;

Any help is much appreciated (and also a brief explanation as to what I'm doing wrong would be great too please for future reference!)

Thanks,

James

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Is this an Excel, or a Google Sheets question?

Is this an Excel, or a Google Sheets question?
I'm using the above in a google sheet workbook but its pinched from an excel workbook and I have tried replicating in excel and I can't get it to work in that either, I think index/match formulas work the same in both?

Thanks

In that case you should clearly state that you are working with google sheets and questions about sheets should be posted in the General Discussion & Other Applications section of the board.
I have done this for you this time.

As that is an array formula, try wrapping it in the ArrayFormula function.

It maybe that Sheets doesn't like that type of formula.

Its working on another google sheet though, the only difference is the 2nd part of the formula on the other workbook also had multiple criteria, below is that example that works;
=-INDEX(TM1_Data_Dump!$E$14:$L$6377,MATCH(1,(TM1_Data_Dump!$A$14:$A$6377=$B$2)*(TM1_Data_Dump!$B$14:$B$6377=Version!$B$8)*(TM1_Data_Dump!$C$14:$C$6377=$B21)*(TM1_Data_Dump!$D$14:$D$6377=$B$1),0),MATCH(1,(TM1_Data_Dump!$E$11:$L$11=C$6)*(TM1_Data_Dump!$E$13:$L$13=C$5)*(TM1_Data_Dump!$E$12:$L$12=$B$3),0))

Thanks,

In that case try using a standard match for the column argument, rather than an array.

Sorry for being thick but I'm not sure what that means;
=ArrayFormula((-INDEX(Sheet2!$H$6:$S$168,MATCH(1,(Sheet2!$E$6:$E$168=$A13)*(Sheet2!$F$6:$F$168=$B13)*(Sheet2!$G$6:$G$168=$C13),0),MATCH(1,(Sheet2!$H$5:$S$5=D$10),0)))/D$11)

This is my current formula
