Increment a serial number containing a /

Hi,

I would like to create a formula or macro to increment a specific serial number by 1 in Cell A2. I would like to generate the next serial number once a value is placed in the adjacent cell.

ie A2 serial number 17/0001 with a value in B2. when a value is placed in B3 I want the next serial number 17/0002 to appear in cell A3.

I have tried using ISBLANK and ROWS to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

this will do soemthing similar but when it gets to 10 it will still have 3 zeros in front of it

=IF(B3="","","17/000" & ROW() - 1)

=IF(B3="","","17/"&TEXT(ROW()-1,"0000"))
