Hi,

I am using Microsoft Office Professional 2021 Excel. I have set autorecover to save my open workbooks to a local hard drive folder: H:\Miscellaneous\Computing\Excel\AutoRecover\ every 10 minutes. However, no backups are being saved there. I'm losing work because my PC is freezing up.

I have Googled the problem and the impression I am getting is that with Office Professional 2021 Excel you can only use autorecover to backup files to OneDrive. Is this true?

I don't want to use OneDrive for security reasons. I don't trust the Cloud with any documents let alone sensitive ones like personal information.

If I can't automatically backup to my PC every ten minutes I am thinking of writing a macro that would do this. Does anyone know of such a macro?

My thanks for your help on this matter

Wow, I'm surprised you never got a response to this. Did you ever get this resolved?

In Win10 & 11 everything is saved to MS OneDrive by default. To change this behavior, follow the instructions in this article. Read step #2: Change Save Location in Microsoft Office Apps.

I should mention that after you've made the changes above, you should double check your Autorecover file options in Excel and make sure it displays the folder location of your choice. The screenshot displayed in that article will explain how to navigate to that particular setting.

The other possibility that may be happening is that your IT administrator has set a policy in place for all user profile documents to be saved on the network. But I can't say that for certain because you have not told us whether you're on a corporate network or if this is your home PC.
