Importing Data - Excel Locking File?

I use a charting program called Sierra Chart. I have the program write the data from a chart to a txt file, which I import into Excel. But when I do this I get an error msg in my charting program that the file is no longer accessible. Is Excel somehow locking the file, and if so, is there a way to prevent this? If not, I will assume the issue is with Sierra Chart and contact them. Thanks.

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
How is Excel getting the data? What are you using to carry out this process?
- is the file being opened by Excel AND saved by Excel
- the file should be opened, the data extracted by Excel, and closed again without being modified in any way

Could you not create a COPY of the text file, run the Excel routine against the copy, leaving the original text file intact?
