used the import external data and everything was looking fine in all the preview windows but when I clicked finish the columns and rows were not the same as preview. what di I miss?
what do you mean all the steps ? was I supposed to go thru each field and assign properties? the preview looked like it would work but when I clicked finish the data in field1 was partially in field2 and so on.
Not sure what caused the problem, but if it has a .csv extension you can open it directly in Excel, check that it's OK and save as an .xls file. Then you can import that into Access -- once you've checked that there aren't any blank rows at the top and the format looks OK. In Excel, set the formats for all of the columns and save. Then import that file, and you should be set.
