Hi

I'm a simpleton when it comes to Access.

I have just changed my pc and when I try to get external data from a txt file, it no longer brings up the import text wizard. What am I doing wrong?

I am running Windows 2000 SP3 with Office XP SP2. The same versions are on both old and new machines.

Excel Facts

Shade all formula cells
To shade all formula cells: Home, Find & Select, Formulas to select all formulas. Then apply a light fill color.
It sounds like an instalation problem to me. Run setup again and check through the options in custom install.

I have tried everything and still cannot get the wizard to open.

When I click on the new button in the tables window, It just opens a table in design view. I don't even get the option of importing data!

Running Office XP full installation!

I don't know about XP but to get external data in A97 it's
File>Get External Data>Import.... and this will start up the wizard.

Yes - that is what should happen but for some reason since I changed PC's I don't get the wizard. I have reinstalled office XP but just can't work out what's going wrong. It is porbably something so simple!

I agree with bat -- sounds like an installation / config issue to me.
Try inserting the installation CD, and select the option that lets you change or repair an existing installation. Sounds like you're missing all or most of the wizards -- install them to run from your PC and see how you go then. (I usually install the Wizards and the Advanced Wizards, and any libaries on offer)
