import Excel spreadsheet to sharepoint 2010 list

I have a Sharepoint 2010 list that can be updated daily with information coming from a new Excel file. First, I tried using the import option but a new list was created. I did not want a new list. I want to add to new items. I surfed the boards the best answer was export back to excel and update spreadsheet with new data and import back to Sharepoint. Any other better solutions?
