Hi there guys,

Been a while since I've been using excel and the brain is a bit rusty....

I'm Just trying to get a formula right so that if someone enters a name, the matching phone number comes up next to it...

breaks down like this..

I have a column A with names and a column B of phone numbers.

If I have a Column E where a user enters a name, What formula do I need so that in Column F it adds the matching phone number from Column B?

I think its a Vlookup solution...

any light is always appreciated

cheers?

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Thats for that it worked a treat.

Just to follow up.

Can I turn that cell in to an IF statement, that if the cell is empty for the Vlookup, ie if Vlookup = "" that the cell lets me choose from a data -> Validation... List -> dropdown list lets instead?

Just want to give the choice that if they don't access the data base they can enter there own value from a list?

Does that make sense is it something that is possible?

cheers
