If you want to convert it within the same cell, select the cell (or cells/column if you have more than one cell to convert), open the Text To Columns dialog box (Data tab, Data Tools panel), click the Next button on the first two dialog pages and, on the third page, select YMD from the drop down next to the Date option button, then click the Finish button (format the result as needed).
