I have to be overthinking this percentile formula

It's not that complicated. I want to have a field a user can put a number, and my formula calculate the percentile of that input based on a minimum and maximum range, everything in the middle included obviously.

Ex.

User puts in 543

Min range is 298
Max is 1094

What is the percentile within that range of 543, where does that number rank...

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
assume you have this in A1
min 298
max 1094
num 1094
% 0%

I put this in column B4 (formatted as %)
=ABS(1-(B3-B1)/(B2-B1))

B3 is your selected variable, and % is your % in the range (assuming 298 shows as 100% and 1094 shows at 0%).
if you want it reverse to this then remove the "ABS(1-)"
