I Didn't Do Well in Excel Interview Tests - Need Help

In the past I've gone to financial interviews where my know-how of excel was tested. They asked about SUMIFS, IF statements, vlookup, hlookup. I know the basics behind these. I thought I knew enough of excel. But the test results differ. I'm an intermediate.

I want to know how to prepare for these interview tests. What are the resources to help test my skill level? So far I have excel worksheets with problem and answers that I practice on. What I'm looking for are random excel problems with increasing levels of difficulty (with answers of course) that will test me. Where can I find these tests?

Excel Facts

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
it can be difficult to know what the examiner is after , I have worked with teams on setting some 30/60 min test for employing staff into a financial team and also a business planning team in an IT company.
I have also been on the other end of tests for interviews etc
Pivot tables, graphs were important as well as interpreting the results.
I hsve also coached a few people privately, who were starting new positions but did not know excel
there are quite a few websites offering tests

what did the test ask for that you did not know
various ways to SUM and Count would be expected
Lookup values
Logic and IF statements
conditional formatting
Pivot tables
Charting
how excel calculates - very important to know the order
Then presentation
Dashboard

Hey etaf,

Appreciate the response. I have 2 questions for you.....

1) What is a good resource that provide tests to questions with answers with increasing difficulty?

2) Since youve provided staff with tests, would you provide at least 1 test a week for me? Say I want to be tested on IF statements. Would you provide just 1 test so I can solve and you can review? Not asking for much. Just 1 basic test a week.

Appreciate it and looking forward to your response.

The tests I worked on were with a team and also wanted to show very specific skills for how excel was used in the team as a minimum, also being prepared ,for the right person also providing further training and support, the role requires more than just excel manipulation.

search for free excel tutorials and quizzes
This site has a lot of resources
https://www.mrexcel.com/learn-excel-resources/

heres the resources I have used with people when training
https://edu.gcfglobal.org/en/excelformulas/quiz/

full tutorial
https://edu.gcfglobal.org/en/excelformulas/

also on youtube

other sites i have used as i learned excel
http://www.cpearson.com/Excel/Topic.aspx

Plus on forums , answering questions is useful teaching aid
have a search on the forums for various questions and try and answer them , see if you get the same answer

providing a test question once a week, would take a bit of resource from myself, as if you get it wrong, i would have to explain why and it will become a teaching exercise, and i doing that for free is quite a commitment
its not just a quiz, but setting up spreadsheets for a scenario and then you completing
have a look at the resources i listed and try the quiz

I also purchased quite a few excel books years ago , Excel for beginners and then the QUE series of books
again your find a lot of books from this site MrExcel
