When I click on the hyperlink to a file that has no extension, that I want to open in excel, it comes up with a "Cannot open the specified file" box.
It would open in automatically with a .txt extension, but as the files are generated automatically this is not ideal - a work around in excel would be preferable.

Any ideas on how to make files automatically open as CSV files of a certain format?

Thanks :eeek:

Wildcard in VLOOKUP
Use =VLOOKUP("Apple*" to find apple, Apple, or applesauce
I doubt it as the file sits outside of excel.

I would perhaps write a small bat file that I could place into a folder to rename all the files with the .csv extension.

and then another to remove the extension once you've finished with it.

Maybe you could write some code in Excel that would open them in Excel for you. Of course, you'd need Excel to be open already and I'm not sure if that's the behaviour you need.
