I have 2 numeric columns . . . 99 (max) and 99.9 (avg). I want the header to span both columns. Can that be done? If so, how?

Total
Consumption
..12......3.1
...9.......2.5
..27......6.5
etc

Hi,

Can't you just use the built-in "Merge & Center" function. If you don't see it, you can highlight the two cells the are the header row, right-click, select Format Cells..., go to the "Alignment" tab and in the middle section "Text Control", check the box that says "Merge cells".

For columns A & B > (Header typed into A1) > select A1:B1 > Home tab > Format > Format cells > Alignment > Horizontal > Center across selection > Ok

Avoid Merging cells to do this.

Merged cells can create problems. An alternate method is to use Horizontal Alignment\Center Across selection

  • Select the two Header cells
  • Right-Click and select Format Cells from the pop-up context menu
  • On the Alignment tab:
    Horizontal Alignment: Center Across Selection

Thanks for the quick replies. "Center Across Selection" did exactly what I wanted. I did not Merge Cells, which I'm unfamiliar with. Thanks again for your help.
