How to think about my data- charting

I like numbers, and I like graphing in excel. But now I have a situation that I don't have a clue how to proceed with. Can you point me in the right direction?

I have a column of date/times, correctly imported, eg, 3/3/2009 13:30 (m/d/yyyy hh:mm).
I have a column showing the number of executions of each program run.
I have a column of program identifiers (a number), ranging from 1 - 37,000 or so.
I have a column of program names.

I wish to chart number of times a program ran against the date it ran and either the program identifier number, or the program name. How do I even begin to think about that?

I am generally a person who RTFM's and searches before posting, but I don't even know what I could search on for this. It's not a specific technical problem, rather a way to think about how this could be charted.

Thanks for your time,
quando

answering my own post here .

Basically, I had a 3 dimensional graph. I split out the least variable portion and made the single graph into 3 graphs.
