Hi Guys,
I am new to this site and not very advanced with Excel so please excuse me if I am asking a very basic question.

I am using excel 2003 to track funds coming into and out of my company on a monthly basis. I have a bar chart set up to reflect each month's turnover. My issue is: how do I set up a "line" on the chart to reflect the average takings each month? I have been using a trendline but it is not working out. Maybe I was using incorrect trendline?? Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you have a numeric keypad, press Alt+7 on numeric keypad to type a bullet in Excel.
I'm not quite clear what you are after.

Is this "average takings" simply the average of the data already displayed or is it a new set of data? (i.e revenue and profit).

If you just want a line to represent the average, you need to create another set of data which is the average.

Say your data was in B2:B14, In C2 put =AVERAGE($B$2:$B$14) and then copy this all the way down to C14. Put the title, eg Monthly Average, in C1.

You now need to add this new column to your chart. The easiest way is to copy the new column, slect the chart, then press paste.

You may need to right-click on the new data, which will appear as a bar I expect, and then select Chart Type and Line.

Thanks
