How to restrict the input into excel cell to specific formate

I need to restrict the excel cell to specific format. the entering data must start with alphabet and may or may not contain number after the that and the data must not contain any special characters

Valid formats:
tarun00197u
tarunkumar345ever


Invalid formats:
4tarun
34tarun
tarun00197%-4u


I am new to excel. please help me.

Will this "restriction" be confined to a single column (which one?), a single row (which one?), several columns (which ones?), several rows (which ones) or all the cells on the worksheet? Also, are we talking about just one worksheet (which one?), more than one worksheet (which ones?) or all of the worksheets?

Dear Rick Rothsten, thanks for the fast reply.

I have 20 worksheets in my excel. I have 2-3 columns in each worksheet.. i have to restrict that columns to the specific formate that i have posted as earlier.
