Frank here. I have a formula = then a symbol which is not a dollar or an S but looks like it. How can I make my keyboard make such a sign and what does it do and mean? Anyone help? thanks

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
Hi,

It would help if we know what you're talking about, at least show us a picture of what it looks like.....

Say that's in A1, put the following in another cell:

Code:
=UNICODE(MID(FORMULATEXT(A1),2,1))

Change A1 as necessary. The cell will display the Unicode code point of the character. What is it?

Frank , Thanks AhoyNc. As mentioned it would be helpful to have shown you the symbol. That's the problem how when I cant find it or know what it is called? Anyway you got it. Well done.:)I looked at both sites you indicated and discovered how to make the symbol and what it does. The example showed that if you press f4 it places it locking the columns, and if you hit f4 again it places it again locking the rows also. My program does not do that does not give locking rows ability, so is f4 the only way to get that. Thanks for your help there

Along with F4 you can also just type the dollar sign ($) in front of the column, row or both in the formula. Not sure what you mean by your program won't allow locking of rows.
A$1 should lock row 1 in this case.
