How to have a link table as READ ONLY

to safegaurd my data, I built another database for users to run queries and link the that data to the new database thinking that it cannot be spoiled by the users but I found that they can write to the original table (linked)

How can I prevent them from this. I want them to created queries from this link table BUT cannot write anything on this linked table.

Any pointers to make table read only are welcome.

There are other options too; you can set up user-level security and define the external tables as read-only; you can create a form or forms for viewing the data, and set the AllowEdits, AllowDeletions and AllowAdditions properties to No; or you can create queries based on snapshot recordsets, which by definition are read-only
