I like to use links to network files with coworkers rather than emailing a file. A problem I've run across is that Microsoft has a problem recognizing a file link if there is a space in the path or filename somewhere. So I get something like this...

\\new volume\forecast\forecast.xls

Is there a way to enter this file link so it will be fully recognized as a link and show like this...

\\new volume\forecast\forecast.xls

Thanks

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
From the help files when you search "Create a Hyperlink":

Create a hyperlink to an existing file or Web page

Right-click the text or graphic you want to represent the hyperlink, and then click Hyperlink on the shortcut menu.

[Alternatively, you can choose Insert/Hyperlink from the menus]

Under Link to on the left side of the dialog box, click Existing File or Web page.
Do one of the following:
To select a file from the current folder, click Current Folder and then click the file you want to link to.

To select the Web page from a list of browsed pages, click Browsed Pages and then click the Web page you want to link to.

To select a file from a list of files you have recently used, click Recent Files and then click the file you want to link to.

If you know the name and location of the file or Web page you want to link to, you can type that information in the Address box.

To select the Web page by opening your browser and searching for the page, click Browse the Web , open the Web page you want to link to, and then switch back to Microsoft Excel without closing your browser.

Thanks gwkenny.

Do you know of a work around for MS Outlook. Actually, I want to use this more in email, but this issue prevents me from doing it....

I found the answer for MS Outlook...

If the Internet address includes spaces, you must enclose the entire address in angle brackets (< >). For example, file://C:\My Documents\MyFile.doc

Well, I did it the way it said in the MSOutlook help and it didn't work.

Any other ideas?
