In 2003 I could use * before or after numbers and letters to do searches when opening files. Now it only works when I place it after the numbers or letters.

Example:

File names abc0111, abc0211, ... abc0612, def0111, ...def0612

I want to find all "11" files

In 2003 I would enter *11 and all files that had had 11 in them would show up in my open file search box.

Any suggestions on how I can use wildcards in my searches?

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
Is the file type in the Open File dialog set to look for new Excel files (.xlsx, .xlsm) and you have a list of old type .xls file in the folder?

Or you could search for *11*
