How do I get tick marks in Excel for auditing?

Hello all,

At some point or another , I somehow managed to download/install/set up a tick mark system I found on the web from someone named Mark Lehman. This system is tied to your personal.xls file and works with macros and .bmp files that have been created to symbolize the tick marks I am looking for.

The problem now is, I have no idea how I did this and I would like to have some of my colleagues utilize the same system but don't want them to go crazy with me trying to show them how to do it when I don't even fully know myself what I did.

Can anyone offer any solutions or know of any other place I can have me and my colleagues go out and find some tick marks and/or tick mark add-ins for Excel?

Thanks,
Rick

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
Lenze,

Thanks for your reply, but when I click on your link, nothing happens. I get a "query failed" message. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Rick

Go to vbaexpress.com and search for checkbox alternative. The article is about the third or fourth one down...

Until Lenze gets back with the link, the manual method is to change the cell font to Marlett (symbolic font) then enter a or b into the cell, must be lower case.

There is no real difference between the 2, using b positions the character slightly higher in the cell but that's all.

Thank you everyone for responding, however, I think I may have been unclear as to what I am looking for.

I am looking for tick marks, not check marks, to audit account schedules and other accounting documents on screen or in electronic format versus having to print them out and handwrite on them. I am looking for symbols that I can use to tie a balance to the GL, foot and cross-foot something, tie a number back to a source document, etc.

Any thoughts anyone? Thanks again.
