How do I calculate cell values or contents in Excel?

I want to count how many employees are late using the COUNTA formula but the formula in Excel also counts.

I suggest that you investigate XL2BB for providing sample data to make it easier for helpers by not having to manually type out sample data to test with. It would also clarify for us whether those times are actual times (numbers) or text values.

In the interim try each of these structures

Excel Formula:
=COUNT(W5:AG5)
Excel Formula:
=COUNT(W5:AG5+0)
