How can I add custom labels to each bar in a graph?

Hello Excel-lent members and thanks so much for your ongoing help,
First off, I have Excel 2007 for Windows.

In this screenshot, the bars in this graph and the numbers to the right come from Excel, and here they have been pasted (linked) into a PowerPoint. The code letters to the left of each bar I put in manually using PowerPoint, but often I have to line them up again when the bars move a tad after I sync with new data. Very time consuming.

Is there some way I can put those code letters into the Excel chart, in the exact way they are shown here, perfectly lining up with each bar as do the numbers?

The Excel file seems to see these 6 bars from top to bottom as Series 1, Series 2..... up to Series 6, then repeat.

Many thanks if you can solve this one for me.
Wishing you all a great day.

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
Hi Roger Nelson,

You can definitely make this chart with the standard excel bar chart. Here is my example of what you wanted. However, if you truly wanted to add custom labels, check out these two posts and video tutorials:

Conditional Data Labels in an Excel Stacked Column Bar Chart | Excel Dashboard Templates

Make Custom Data Labels that are different than the data | Excel Dashboard Templates

BarChartWithLabelsOutsideEnd.png

Here are the steps for the picture above:
1) Create Bar Chart from data range of A1:C21
2) Delete Horizontal Gridlines
3) Delete Legend
4) Change Fill Colors for Each Series
5) Change Vertical Axis to "categories in reverse order" so that the labels are in the right order
6) Remove Major Tick Marks from vertical axis
7) Add Data labels as Outside End to the Chart

Please let me know if this helps.

Hello Steve and thanks again,
In the 2 screenshots here you can see that I have added the code letters (new ones), and I've been able to make visible the "M" (for example) of the first data series, but it is sitting to the right of the bars, right next to the numerical value. Have I done something wrong? Could you suggest a way to get that "M" to sit to the left of the bar? (keeping the numerical value to the right)
Many thanks for your time.
Roger

Hello Roger Nelson, so sorry, didn't see your posts. The M is not a label. It is a Vertical Axis. Try adding your Vertical Axis. Steve=True
