Does anyone know what the hourly rates are generally speaking for developing vba macro charting tools for the Banking Industry?

I've just had a few opportunities come up with some investment banks to macro some advanced charts & I'm curious what I would charge?...£30 - £50 per hour? for the time spent creating the programmes in vba?

Also do I password protect my code as my intellectual property forever or do I hand it over to the company?

Whether or not it's yours depends on the contract you have with the company.

Will you be working directly for them or as an independent contractor?

As to the password protecting - there's really no point, Excel isn't a secure environment.:)

If someone is determined to get the code they will.
