hourly fee question

can someone tell me the ballpark hourly fee to build spreadsheets for others?

I have seen these range from as low as $50 an hour up to and over $200 an hour, depending on location, quality of work/expertise/references and complexity of the project. I don't know of many people that have a set hourly rate and it is always that. Myself personally I try to stay in the $80-$100 range, but first look at what the project entails and then give them a rate based on what is involved.

Note that I work for a company and do this on the side, so I don't have to worry about the extra costs like health insurance and other things, that someone, that this is going to be all they do would ahve to worry about and account for it in the cost. I also work with mainly small businesses and other small clients and give them discounts for continuing use and long term projects. If I have to travel quite a bit to go somewhere, that will go into the cost as well, or I will give them an itemized bill for travel and let them know they would need to cover it.

There is a lot that goes into the cost and it will more sepend on what type of work you will be doing it, where you will be doing it and for how long.

It depends on several factors: how good you are, how complex the task is, how well you can sell yourself/service, etc.

I probably wouldn't settle on anything less than $40/hr. if you're doing it on a consulting basis.

Also I forgot to note, I have been doing this now for almost 3 years and have built a list of references, when I started I was at around $30-$40, but I just did that to gain the references and the word of mouth. And they were much simpler projects and more projects. Now it is more complex projects and much less of them.
