Highlighting cells without increasing used range

Hi

First of 2 questions today

I've got a macro setup to import data from a database.

I think it's a "nice to have" for the cells where data is supposed to arrive to be higlighted to the user. Or similarly, how far down the workbook a named range goes.
The annoying thing is that if you colour those cells or put borders there, then it increases the used range even before any data has ever been there.

Is there a better way I haven't thought of yet to highlight a range to make it obvious where data is expected to land / how far down a named range goes?

Thanks
