There is a field on a form in Access which is used to type notes. Is it possible to allow the person who is typing the notes to be able to highlight certain parts of the notes? (e.g the bold text below would be highlighted)

'01/01/2017 - Tried to call today but no answer. I have left a message for them to get back to me.'

Is it possible to do this?

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
What data type is the field?

If it's a Memo field then you can set it's Text Format property to Rich Text and that will allow the user to format the text.

Apparently, and I didn't know this, 'Memo' fields have been renamed 'Long Text' fields, so you shouldn't need to change anything.

so I will just need to change the Format to Rich Text? And will this remove the current data in the field when converting from Plain to Rich Text?

As far as I know changing the format to Rich Text won't remove any data though but it will become HTML encoded.
