Hiding Number problem - cant use CF

I have 2 columns - start date and end date. The start date is populated from elsewhere in my workbook and the end date is entered manually. I have a 3rd col which computed the number of working days between the 2 dates. The calculated cell displays a large number if the end date cell is blank - I understand what is happening here but I want to hide (or replace the number with a "-") if this happens.

The obvious way is via CF and normally I would use this but I'm already using CF to colour each alternative row. This means the CF to set the large number to have a font colour the same as the cell colour will only work on every other row.

What other options do I have? I've thought about a custom number format but I want the correct answers to be in the current format, soi I cant see an option (both the correct answer and the large number is positive so I can use a custom number format).

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
Get the formula to deal with it. Something like this, where B3 would be the second, manually entered, date

=IF(B3="","",your_existing_formula)
