Hiding formula without protecting sheet

Is there a way to hide formulas other than format cell/hide then protecting sheet? I see several threads on the subject but it seems that is the only solution people recommend. That solution does not fit my needs. Can anyone help with an alternative? Thanks in advance.

If you're just trying to prevent people seeing the logic in your formulae, you could create a set of user-defined functions (UDFs) that incorporate the logic, give the UDFs obscure names and password-protect the workbook's vba project.
