Hide Error Value & Keep Cell Blank

My question is a little different than other threads I have viewed. I want to hide an error value and keep the cell blank if there is a value of 0. The hide "0" option in the excel options does not work for this as a formula is pulling data from another formula. It seems easy, but I have not figured it out. This is my problem:

-The cells in column B pulls and sums up a total based on a separate list of values sorted by category. When a column B cell pulls data other than 0, the total saved from previous months is added to the column C cells and the remaining money to save is shown in column D.

-Columns B,C,&D all have formulas that build off of the column E cells. The cells in column E are for entering values only (no formulas).

-In my column D cells, the formula I have is: =IF(ISERROR(E3-C3),E3,E3-C3). However, if my values in column E are blank, the 0 values (accounting dashes show up in the rest of the cells). Without the ISERROR formula, I would be getting a #VALUE! error. I can't find a ("") formula that works with the hide error formula to keep the cells blank. I want to keep all my cells blank when there are no values entered. Can anyone offer me any help on this minor issue? Thanks!

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
My question is a little different than other threads I have viewed. I want to hide an error value and keep the cell blank if there is a value of 0. Maybe something like this...

=IF(COUNT(E3,C3)=2,E3-C3,"")

Thank you Valko. Your formula worked exactly like mine did, but I forgot to mention that I wanted to try and and make a cell such as C2 appear when a value is added to E2 for example. Right now, the only way for a column C cell to appear is if a value is inputted in the column B cell to the left of the cell. The formula in the column B cells are simply summing up a bunch of dollar amounts from a different sheet based on category.

The formula I tried using in C2 was: =IF(ISERROR(E3-C3),E3,E3-C3) When I type a value into E2, that value shows up in C2 because B2 is blank. When E2 is blank however, the zero (accounting dash) is still present as seen in the rest of the column C cells. I have not figured out how to add the "" into the formula to make the cell blank and still make it work as I have it now...Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks!
How can the value of cell E2 appear in cell C2 when the formula in cell C2 does not even reference cell E2?

I'm not following you on this.

How about using a number format instead to hide your zero values?

From the Excel 2003 Help article:

Use a number format to hide zero values in selected cells

Follow this procedure to hide zero values in selected cells. If the value in one of these cells changes to a nonzero value, the format of the value will be similar to the general number format.
1.Select the cells that contain the zero (0) values that you want to hide.
2.On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Number tab.
3.In the Category list, click Custom.
4.In the Type box, type 0;-0;;@

Notes
• The hidden values appear only in the formula bar — or in the cell if you edit within the cell — and are not printed.
• To display hidden values again, select the cells, click the Cells command on the Format menu, and then click the Number tab. In the Category list, click General to apply the default number format. To redisplay a date or a time, select the appropriate date or time format on the Number tab.

Hope this helps...

Thank you Gary, that worked! I didn't realize custom formatting had that kind of power with numbers such as zeros. I played around with the custom formatting you mentioned and got it into a custom accounting format that included no dashes and a completely blank cell when the value is 0:

_($* #,##0.00_);_($* (#,##0.00);;@

As far as I can tell, this seems to be working perfectly with my =IF(ISERROR(E2-C2),E2,E2-C2) formula. Thank you!

Valko, I'm sorry I copied and pasted the wrong reference. I should have just referenced everything in one row such as row 2. The C3 & E3 should have been C2 & E2 in the formula previously posted. I was not able to find a way to include "" in the ISERROR formula, but I can at least use the custom number value format tip. Sorry for confusing you.

No problem. Glad you got it straightened out!

By the by, "BP," is there any reason you are using "" (empty strings) in your formulas? If you do a straight SUM() or subtraction, it would seem that you wouldn't need the checking for errors (which appear to be generated by doing a subtraction operation with a string and a number).

For what it's worth...
