Help with SUMIF

Hi:

2*Invest 10
3*Invest 20
4*Invest 30
2*Restricted - Invest 10


N49 = invest
O49 = SUMIF($N$43:$N$46,"*"&N49,$O$43:$O$46)

Returns 70.
Required value $60.00

Could you help please?

Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
How about
=SUMIF($N$43:$N$46,"*~*"&N49,$O$43:$O$46)

Could you explain how "*~*" works and why it gives the required value and why "*" does not?

The ~ signifies that the following character * is part of the string to be found rather than a wildcard.
So your formula looks for a cell that ends in "Invest", whilst mine looks for a cell that ends in "*invest"
