Good day to all,

This is my first post in this forum...:) I am a novice Excel user and I am trying to learn the ropes in becoming a good Excel VB programmer someday.

My question is, it seems that my Visual Basic for Applications has changed. I am trying to record a macro and the the interface looks like this.

As you can see, whenever I try to press F8, it returns an error :( I am just familiar with the old interface. Any help / guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pao

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Vba hasn't changed, the code is wrong.

There are a small number of actions that don't work when you record them then try to run the macro afterwards, this could be one of them.

edit:-

The Range.Datafields property suggests pivottables, but without knowing more of what you were doing when recording the code, there is not much advice we can give.

Try saving the sheet as an .xlsm file first & then record the macro.

Does that make a difference then, Fluff?

I've not ever encountered an issue running code on an unsaved workbook.

The only time I can remember having a similar problem was something obscure like recording a Ctrl f search to match formats. Whatever it was wouldn't work regardless of what I did.

I don't think it should make any difference, but I have seen quite a few posts with recorded code like the OP has shown, so just thought it was worth a try.

@louiepaulobaron
Something else to check, do you have any add-ins installed?

Think I might be using the macro recoreder with a few pivottables over the weekend to see what comes up. The lines, "Bold. = ???" look wrong in vba terms :eeek:

Yeah, those lines definitely don't look right.

By the way, welcome back :)
It's nice to see you on here again.

Thank you both for replying to my inquiry. I don't have any add-ins installed. I will also try saving the file first in .xlsm format. By default, my files are saved as .xlsx
