&H1 Can someone please explain this value?

I am trying to understand the following function taken from the web:

Can someone explain or point me to an explanation of the &H1 and 0& as used above?
Is it VB shorthand? A hexidecimal equivalent? Why not just use the values 1 & 0?

Hi

They are 2 different things.

The prefix "&H" means that it's a hexadecimal number. It's easier to examine a bit array in hex. If you are used to it you just look, for ex. at the value 1A and you know that the bits 2, 4 and 5 are set.

The sufix "&" is a Type Declaration Character. It can be used with variables or constants. In this case it means it's a constant type Long, which you can check that matches the declaration of the element pIDLRoot in the Type definition.
