Im trying to group certain records together in my query. see below:

Product:
BMW
Nissan
Cadillac
Saab
Cheverolet
Mercedez

I need to create a new field in my query to group Cadillac, Saab, and Cheverolet together and I want to call that field 'General Motors'. What formula goes into my new field?

thanks.

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
Why not add another column in your original table for 'General Motors' etc?

It is possible to create a calculated field but it would be very complex.

i'm actually pulling a lot of numerical data in my query to do calculations such as averages. I'm pulling the data from our data warehouse and i cant group fields together in excel b/c it doesnt take a straight average. does that make sense?

Are you actually working in Access?

Why not create a new table with Product as one field and 'General Motors' etc as the other?

Then for your grouping query link the tables by Product.
