Group people after linking

Hi all,

I have an Excel file with names of people I have to divide into groups.
On separate paper files they all wrote the names of people they'd like to be in the group with.
The situation is a youth movement holiday with different groups of friends, so we can assume that if person A chose B and C, C will choose A and/or B (but not D, who chooses E, who chooses F etc.)
I'd like to link the names in the excel file and get an overview of all people that would like to be in the same group.
In this particular case it is needed to group the youngsters into hotel rooms.

This seems like a basic problem to me, but I can't find anything about it using Google. I guess I'm using the wrong keywords...
In an additional step (not needed right now cause we're one big group, but it will be useful in the future) it would be nice if Excel could automatically divide all people into a given amount of groups, whilst not splitting subgroups with linked names.

Thanks in advance!
Robbe
